About

Alex Wall

Attorney, engineer, and AI builder, with legal experience inside major AI transformation efforts and a practical approach to helping lawyers put the technology to work.

I work on both the legal and engineering sides of AI. I build software and have served as counsel to leading AI and enterprise technology companies, working directly with teams behind major transformation projects. I bring that experience to lawyers through classes, workshops, and hands-on consulting.

My first encounter with legal AI came long before generative models. As a discovery attorney at Fried Frank during the financial-crisis litigation wave, and then as the first in-house general counsel at two litigation-technology companies, I deployed Relativity, built review workflows, and taught lawyers to trust textual analytics and technology-assisted review. I learned early that adoption depends less on the tool than on whether lawyers understand it, can check it, and can explain it.

I then spent a decade building privacy and AI governance programs inside technology companies: RADAR, Marketo and Adobe, New Relic, Rimini Street, and Zendesk. At Rimini Street, I built a retrieval-augmented (RAG) prototype in early 2023 to speed up repetitive compliance questionnaires, then led the founding of the company's AI governance committee. At Zendesk, I led the privacy team and gave lawyers AI-powered knowledge tools, including RAG search over a privacy contracting playbook.

Today, I am the principal of Wall Law, work on in-house secondments through FLEX by Fenwick & West, and am the founder and builder of Caiioo, a privacy-first AI work platform, and I teach and advise legal teams on AI transformation. I work hands-on every day with Claude Code, ChatGPT Codex, Google Antigravity, and many other AI harnesses and platforms. Building the software keeps my advice honest: I know what these tools can do, where they fail, and what happens to your data.

What I offer lawyers

I work with lawyers in firms, solo practitioners, fractional counsel, and in-house legal teams. Training and consulting are tailored to your practice, whether you work independently or across a legal department.

CLE-accredited classes and workshops, in person or by web conference, that take attorneys and staff from curiosity to confident daily use: prompting for legal tasks, verifying output, protecting confidentiality and privilege, and building repeatable workflows for their own practice areas.

AI-native legal playbooks and resources that scale your advice within your own environment, supported by custom applications, integrations and workflows. Your legal positions, review criteria and escalation paths become reusable guidance for your team.

Consulting for lawyers and legal teams ready to adopt AI deliberately: readiness assessments, use-case selection and pilots, tool evaluation and vendor contracting, and AI use policies aligned with ABA Formal Opinion 512 and client expectations.

Legal services for companies

I also continue to provide privacy, product, and related commercial counsel to companies, drawing on more than a decade leading privacy and product legal work in-house: privacy programs and compliance, product counseling, data processing and technology agreements, and AI governance.

Let's talk

If you are weighing how to use AI in your own practice or train a legal team, or your company needs privacy, product, or commercial counsel, I'd be glad to hear what you're working on.
